Ifrah Hussein is a Somali-Canadian award-winning poet and author of "An Anthology of Grief or the ways a Somali Woman Loves". Ifrah completed a 2019 North American Tour that received stellar reviews and has performed both nationally and internationally in cities such as Vancouver, Edmonton, Regina, Ottawa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, London, UK, Paris, France, New York, Seattle, Santa Cruz, Minneapolis, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Washington, D.C, Arlington, V.A, and Hyattsville, MD to name a few. in January of 2020, Ifrah was the recipient of the Best Spoken Word Artist award by the ByBlacks People’s Choice Awards 2019 - a platform dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments of Black Canadians. Ifrah, in October of 2020, became the recipient of the Poet of the Year award by the Somali Museum of Minnesota, an organization dedicated to promoting the highest forms of creativity. In 2020, Ifrah was also shortlisted for an International Somali Award in the United Kingdom. Ifrah, in the summer of 2019, was the recipient of the Artist of the Year award at the Somali Excellence awards and is also the 2017 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Champion, making her the first woman to have won the national title.
Ifrah has ranked in the top 5 of 96 poets at the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam in Texas, also making her the only Canadian to compete on finals stage in its 12-year history. Ifrah was also among the top 4 countries at the Poetry World Cup in Paris, France and has also been recognized for her performances on prominent stages such as Busyboys and Poets in 4 locations as a feature, Write About Now in Houston and When Sisters Speak in Toronto - a stage dedicated to annual poetry/spoken word performances by 6 black renowned, national and international poets. She has also performed in Universities such as University of California, Pratt Institute, University of British Columbia, MacEwan University, Carleton University, University of Toronto, Western University, University of Waterloo and Ryerson University. Ifrah has since taken her poetry internationally and is expected to release her second published collection of poetry in the spring of 2021
